The SJMS Annual Open House for the Upcoming 2016/2017 School Year will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16th 2016, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm in our Classrooms!

Anyone interested in enrollment for this School Year is welcome to attend, to tour our program, meet our Teachers, and have any questions answered!

Please note:  we will NOT be accepting Registrations during the Open House; as per MELCC Regulations spaces will be offered based on our Waiting List, and families will be contacted in the weeks following the Open House.  If you have not placed your child on the Waiting List, we recommend contacting Laura or Haley as soon as possible, either via email or telephone.

The St. James Montessori School now has limited spaces available in the PM program for the upcoming September School Year! Please contact us at for information on enrolment.

The St. James Montessori School enrolls families each year based on our Waiting List, as per Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care Licensing Regulations.  This Waiting List has the upcoming 5 School Years on it, and families are encouraged to call and place their child on this list as soon as possible, to increase their chances of being offered a space down the road.  Families are also required to place any younger siblings of currently enrolled students on the appropriate year's Waiting List, if they are interested in having additional children attend in upcoming years.  Only Returning Students from the previous School Year are given priority at enrollment; for all other spaces, we enroll children based on the Waiting List, and in the order families requested to enter onto it.

"Growing and learning together."

For over 40 years, the St. James Montessori School has been providing children with an enriched Nursery School experience that follows the teachings and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. The Montessori Method has been around since the early 1900's and is considered an innovative and revolutionary educational philosophy that focuses on self-rewarding, leadership and peer-based learning,. We are a non-profit, Enhanced Nursery School that follows all Manitoba Licensing Regulations and Best Practices.

Our School provides a challenging and stimulating environment that enables the child to develop independence, self-confidence, initiative, concentration, and social skills. These skills, combined with an emphasis on self-control and discipline, provide excellent preparation for the transition to Kindergarten and Grade One. The classrooms are carefully laid out and geared specifically to the child's level, both physically and academically. The learning materials explore basic elements of biology, botany, geography, math, language, world culture, and creativity. We have further enhanced our program and curriculum by including a strong socio-emotional development component, as well as daily gross-motor time to encourage physical fitness. We have combined all of the elements, principles, and materials of the Montessori Method with the Developmentally Appropriate Practices of the Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care Program. We strongly believe that by merging these two early childhood education principles, we are supporting the growth of the Whole Child.

The St. James Montessori School is committed to supporting families of all socio-economic backgrounds, and families are welcome to apply for the Manitoba Subsidy Program. As part of Manitoba's Early Learning and Child Care Initiative, we are pleased to offer families a drastically reduced daily fee, as we are an Enhanced Nursery School. To date we are the only Montessori School in Manitoba to be awarded the Enhanced status. We offer quality care and education to children ages 2.5 years - 6 years, and families choose the morning or afternoon program, either 3, 4 or 5 days per week. Daily sessions are 2.5 hours in length.

The St. James Montessori School is dedicated to support children of all developmental levels and needs. The Montessori Method can be very beneficial to children with additional support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorders.
